Health and Safety Policy for Cleaners NW1
Cleaners NW1 is committed to maintaining the highest standards of health, safety and welfare for our employees, clients, visitors and members of the public who may be affected by our cleaning operations. This policy outlines our approach to managing health and safety across all cleaning services we provide within our operating area.
Our objective is to prevent accidents, protect health, and create safe working environments in every property we service, including homes, offices and commercial premises. Health and safety is integral to the way we plan, deliver and review our cleaning work.
Management Responsibilities
Management at Cleaners NW1 accepts overall responsibility for health and safety within the company. We will provide clear leadership, suitable resources and appropriate systems to ensure that risks are identified, controlled and monitored.
We will review this policy periodically, and whenever there are significant changes in our operations or in relevant legislation, to ensure it remains suitable and effective. Managers and supervisors are responsible for implementing this policy and ensuring that all staff understand their duties and follow agreed procedures.
Employee Responsibilities
All employees of Cleaners NW1 share responsibility for their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions. Staff must cooperate with management, follow training and instructions, use equipment correctly, and report hazards, incidents or near misses without delay.
Employees must never undertake work for which they have not been trained or which they consider unsafe. Any concerns about safety must be raised immediately with a supervisor so that appropriate action can be taken.
Risk Assessment and Safe Systems of Work
Cleaners NW1 carries out risk assessments for the cleaning tasks we undertake and the environments in which we work. These assessments identify potential hazards and set out control measures to reduce risks to an acceptable level.
We develop safe systems of work based on these assessments, including clear instructions for handling equipment, dealing with spillages, working at height, managing electrical hazards, and maintaining good housekeeping standards. Staff are informed of these procedures and must follow them at all times.
Training, Information and Supervision
We provide appropriate health and safety training to all employees, including induction training for new staff and refresher training where necessary. This includes instruction in safe cleaning methods, correct use of products and equipment, manual handling techniques, accident reporting and emergency procedures.
Supervisors monitor work practices on site to ensure that training is applied in practice. Additional guidance and support are provided whenever new techniques, products or equipment are introduced or when staff are assigned to unfamiliar types of premises.
Use of Cleaning Chemicals and Equipment
Cleaners NW1 is committed to the safe selection, storage, use and disposal of cleaning products. We only use chemicals suitable for professional cleaning and, where reasonably practicable, we favour products with lower health and environmental impact.
All chemicals are used in accordance with manufacturer instructions, relevant safety data information and applicable regulations. Staff are trained in correct dilution, application, ventilation requirements and personal protection. Cleaning equipment is maintained in safe working order and checked regularly. Defective items are removed from service until repaired or replaced.
Personal Protective Equipment
Where risks cannot be eliminated by other means, Cleaners NW1 provides appropriate personal protective equipment such as gloves, masks, eye protection or suitable footwear. Employees must use the equipment provided, keep it in good condition and report any defects immediately.
We assess the need for specific protective equipment for each type of cleaning task, including deep cleaning, carpet cleaning and work in high-traffic or sensitive environments. Protective equipment is replaced as necessary to ensure its continued effectiveness.
Accident, Incident and Near Miss Reporting
All accidents, incidents and near misses occurring during our work must be reported promptly. Cleaners NW1 records and investigates these events to identify root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Where necessary, we will cooperate fully with any external investigations and provide information requested by relevant authorities. Lessons learned from incidents are communicated to staff and reflected in updated training and procedures.
Health, Welfare and Occupational Health
Cleaners NW1 recognises the importance of protecting both the physical and mental health of our staff. We aim to minimise exposure to hazards such as slips and trips, contact with irritants, repetitive strain, and manual handling injuries.
Workers are encouraged to report any health concerns that may be related to their work so that appropriate adjustments, medical advice or alternative duties can be considered. We support a respectful and non-discriminatory working culture and do not tolerate harassment or bullying.
Emergency Procedures
We ensure that employees are familiar with emergency procedures for the premises in which they work, including fire evacuation routes, assembly points and the location of emergency equipment where information is available from the client or building management.
In the event of an emergency, staff must follow site-specific instructions, prioritise personal safety and assist others where it is safe to do so. Any emergencies or serious incidents involving our work are reported and reviewed by management.
Cooperation with Clients and Other Parties
Cleaners NW1 works closely with clients, building managers and other contractors to coordinate health and safety arrangements. We respect local site rules and share relevant information about our activities to help maintain a safe environment for everyone.
Where our staff work alongside other trades or services, we take reasonable steps to avoid conflicts of activity, reduce risks from shared areas and agree appropriate access arrangements and working times.
Continuous Improvement and Policy Review
We are committed to the continuous improvement of our health and safety performance. Cleaners NW1 regularly reviews working practices, incident reports, staff feedback and legislative developments to refine our procedures and controls.
This Health and Safety Policy is communicated to all employees and is made available to clients upon request. It will be reviewed periodically to ensure that it continues to reflect the nature and scale of our cleaning services and supports safe, reliable and professional operations throughout our service area.
